Murray Law Office

History

The Murray Law Office was founded in 1910 by William A. Murray, Sr.  He graduated from Boston University Law School and was admitted to the bar on August 23, 1910.  The office was originally located at 144 Main Street, Milford and moved to its present address, 260 Main Street, in 1960.  Until 1945, there was  also an office at 18 Tremont Street, Boston.  William A. Murray, Sr. who served as State Representative from  1916-1917 and Town Counsel of Milford for many years, was appointed by Governor James M. Curley as  Special Justice of the Milford  District Court in 1936 and served until his death in  1953.

In 1940, William A. Murray, Jr., a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School, joined  the practice.  In 1945, he was appointed by Governor Maurice J. Tobin as Clerk Magistrate of the Milford District Court and served until his retirement in 1977.

During his years as an attorney and Clerk Magistrate, he served as president of the Milford Bar Association and was a member of the American Bar, Massachusetts Bar and Worcester County Bar Associations.  He also was a part-time title examiner for the former Milford Savings Bank and closing attorney for Milford Federal Savings and Loan Association. Attorney Murray Jr. was general counsel for Johnson Bus Lines, which later merged with Bonanza Bus Lines, and Porter Shoe Company, which later became Milford Shoe Company.

Attorney Murray Jr. was the successful plaintiff’s counsel in a personal injury suit entitled Delfino v. Torosian that was affirmed on appeal by the Supreme Judicial Court.  This case changed existing law by holding that two individual wrongdoers were jointly and severally liable for the entire injuries to an injured party.

He was a member of the Executive Board of the Massachusetts Clerk Magistrates Association for many years as well as an incorporator of the Milford Regional Medical Center.  He also served as chairman of the Milford Zoning Board of Appeals and as member of the Milford Conservation Commission for several years.

He continued to remain active with the general practice of law until 2002 and passed away in 2006.

Brian W. Murray joined the firm in 1984.  He is a graduate of Stonehill College and New England School of Law, where he served as  class commencement  speaker.  He currently serves as a member of the Milford Board of Selectmen, chairman of the  Community Field Committee and member of the Upper Charles Recreation Trail Committee.  He was a member of the Milford School Committee for 12  years and served as chairman for 3 of those years. He has served since 1990 as President of the Friends of the Milford Senior Center, Inc., a private, non-profit corporation and was chairman of the Senior Center Building Committee which constructed the present senior center on North Bow Street.  He has also served as chairman of the War Memorial Committee which successfully completed a  memorial in Draper Park to veterans from Milford who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.   He was selected by the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston as the 1992 winner of the Dan H. Fenn Jr. award for political leadership.

Attorney Brian Murray. was a member of the Worcester County Hearings Committee for the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers for 7 years.  He is admitted to practice in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He is a closing attorney for Milford Federal Savings and Loan Association.
